Catamaran versus monohull in Fort Lauderdale canals

A catamaran that is a joy on the ICW can be a problem on Las Olas. Beam, not length, is the gate. Residential canals that accept an 80-foot monohull will refuse a 50-foot cat because the fairway is a single-file cut. Marinas with a mega-yacht face dock are often more flexible than a backyard HOA. We measure the beam against canal width and against the turning basin, then we talk about whether the owner actually wants a cat for the Bahamas or wants the Fort Lauderdale house to look a certain way. Those are different purchases.
